A New Mathematical Learning Curve Model Based on the Empirical Analysis of Japanese Sharing Economy Companies

Mathematical learning curve models have been widely used in strategic and production planning. In some emerging industries, the effect may be delayed or inhibited by various factors. This study proposes a new mathematical model—the squiggly model—for these industries. The model incorporates any potential impeding factors learning. It can present all shapes single formula, from traditional log-linear curves to S-curve sawtooth-shaped curves. adopts mixed methods approach that combines modeling, nonparametric regression analysis using smoothed spline methods, questionnaire surveys, interviews, case studies. findings confirm suitably represents shape of sharing economy companies’ curve; this is affected several factors, including increase site-patrol costs prevent users violating rules regulations, site modification costs, salaries for customer service sales employees, which occur as number platform increases.
